Celebrating and Rewarding
As a 7 habits school, we work diligently each day to be the best learners, thinkers and citizens that we can be. Hard work will be rewarded! In our class there will number of ways we will recognize and celebrate our efforts as individuals and as a group.
Classroom Expectations
Classroom Routines
Arrival at School

The doors will open at 8:05am. If I am in the classroom, students are welcome to enter and beging getting ready for the day. If the classroom door is closed, students are expected to wait quietly outside the door.
Class begins at 8:15am with O'Canada. Attendance is also taken at this time. If your child is late, please have them check in at the office so that our attendance is completed properly.

Agendas
Each student has an agenda. This is a daily communication and organizational tool. At the beginning of each month and week, we record upcoming information to help us in being proactive. It is important to ensure that your child's agenda comes to school each day and that it is checked each day. Your child is encouraged to take on the responsibility of showing you thier agenda. Please indicate that you have seen your child's agenda with an initial on the date. Notes and newsletters will be placed in the plastic pockets at the front of the agenda. Each morning, students are expected to have their agenda open for announcements and we will check for any notes or written information from home.
This Week at School (TWAS) Journal
Your child will regulalry communicate with you through a reflective journal. This journal provides an authentic purpose for writing. When students write, they will be keeping you informed of what they have learned, things they feel confident in or feel they need more time practicing. These journals can take many forms from sentence starters to free writing. Journals will not be edited by teachers. This gives you frequent opportunites to observe growth in your child's written communication. We encourage parents to read and respond to the journal entries that have been written. Journals will usually be sent home on a Friday. If they could please be returned the following Monday.
Team Effort
Classroom routines can be simple and they can be more in depth. At the beginning of the year we spend time making these routines as clear, predictable and effective as possible. They allow our class to run smoothly and efficiently, so we can spend our time on what matters - learning and growing. Here are some of the routines we have in our classroom:
Team Leadership Jobs
It take a team effort to stay efficient and organized in the classroom. Students have been placed on a leadership team for the first term. With this team, they will be responsible for a classroom job for about one week.
The classroom jobs are: Clean Team, Tech Squad, Kindness Crew, Book Buddies, Lunch Buddies, Teacher Assistants.

Lockers
Each student has a locker in the classroom. All backpacks and belongings are stored in the lockers and a clasp is given to each to locker to help it stay closed. This also gets students in the habit of using a lock type fastener which they will have in grade 4. Having the lockers securely closed also helps to reduce students hurting themselves on open doors and corners.
Water Bottles
Keeping hydrated through out the day is important. Students are encouraged to bring a water bottle to school. Water bottles will be kept on the back counter and students are free to get up throughout the day for a drink. Please send water bottles filled in the morning. Students will be permitted to refill water bottles at snack and lunch time. Please label water bottles. All water bottles are taken home at the end of each day for cleaning and refilling.
Bathroom use
Bathroom breaks will be taken throughout the day - generally at snack. lunch recess and a break in the afternoon. Students are encouraged to use these times to use the bathroom. For safety reasons, students do need to ask permission to leave the classroom to use the washroom at other times.
Recess Behaviour
Handing in forms / work |
Recess is an important part of our day. It is a time to be energized or relax and to be social with one another. At recess there is the continued expectation that students are respectful of one another in their words and actions.
Recess Equipment - our classroom has some balls and skipping ropes that students can use at recess. This bin will be replenished as the year progresses. STudents are asked to leave trading cards, special toys and electronics at home so they do not get lost or broken. |
Each student has a number that corresponds to all their belongings in the classroom. Students keep minimal materials in their desks. All their duotangs and workbooks are kept in a file folder and students are reponsible for ensuring their belongings are kept organized in them. When notes or assignments are to be handed in, students have a file folder with their number on it that their retuning material goes into.
Permission Forms
Dansereau is moving to electronic permission forms. Forms will need to be completed and submitted before events and field trips. Forms will be able to be completed from home computers, phones and at a computer in the school office.
More information will be provided about these at a later date.

Line Ups / Partner Work
We use organized line ups and partners to be effective in our use of time and to encourage students to work with a variety of students throughout the day. To help with this we will have line up orders (eg, by birthday, alphabetical). Students have also chosen four sets of "Duck Partners" that when partner work is needed, thay can quickly meet up with their partner and get going with their tasks.
